The BonDon Apiary

Bonnie examines the queen in the queen cage. Is she alive? Is she wearing a crown? She will remain in the cage for a week while the other bees get used to her.

The hive came as a kit. We assembled all the pieces and painted it. Let's see, slot A goes into slot Bee....

She puts the cover on...carefully...doesn’t want to hurt any bees. Gertrude, Betty, get out of the way!

One week later: Bonnie uses the smoker filled with sumac pods, to calm the bees. Are you sure it’s lit?

The bees have made lots of honey comb in just one week! Notice the little tape measures they use. Don't worry, I used a telephoto lens to take this picture!

She squirts the bees with sugar water to calm them. Mmm, yum! Is it caffeinated?

She carefully inserts the wax frames which the bees will build on. Squish! Oh no! Was that Herman? Yes, Bonnie has named all 6,000 of them.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzz! Happy little bees.

The hive, with the cage the bees came in on the ground. Our bees didn't experience the US Mail, (they drove) but I can see why the post office would be upset!
